About Us
Established in 2015, FREEDOM FOR TIBET MOVEMENT is a dynamic Political Movement advocating for the freedom of Tibet from illegal Chinese occupation. We ask that Tibetans are given freedom to worship Buddhism freely without state control by Chinese authorities. That Tibetans be allowed to worship his Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama without any prohibition, and to allow our spiritual leader's return to Tibet. We demand that His Holiness Panchen Lama be released from illegal detention in China along with all political prisoners including Buddhist monks from prisons in China. We demand that Chinese authorities stop indoctrination of Tibetans with Communist ideas and allow Tibetans to use their own language. We demand Nepalese authorities not to collaborate with Chinese communist authorities to curb activities of Tibetan refugees in Nepal. Not to disrupt just and peaceful anti-China protests in Nepal soil against Chinese occupation of Tibet. We demand that Nepali authorities stop arbitrary arrests, detention of Tibetan activists. We demand that Nepalese authorities stop removing Tibetan refugees from Nepal back to China, which they are doing now in secrecy. We demand that Tibetan refugees in Nepal given the same rights given to Bhutanese refugees, freedom of movement and freedom for work and set up businesses. We ask that Nepal authorities join the Refugee Convention and grant Tibetan refugees full Refugee status as per the Convention.
When Chinese military raided the Rongbuk Monastery and found the Dalai Lama photo with his Identification Card, Buddhist monk Nawang Tashi Gyatso had to escape Tibet. Chinese authorities do not allow following Dalai Lama and treat his followers as terrorists for seeking a separate state from China. He managed to escape Tibet with his mother and eventually registered as a Refugee in Nepal, a facility the UNHCR agreed to provide with Nepali authorities. Refugee registration does not give any legal rights to Tibetan refugees but acknowledges they exist in Nepal. Under pressure from China successive governments in Nepal has abandoned registration of Tibetan Refugees that has led to thousands of undocumented Tibetans in Nepal including those children born to Tibetans in Nepal. Before starting the FREEDOM FOR TIBET MOVEMENT in 2015 our leader Nawang Tashi Gyatso, a Buddhist monk from Tibet peacefully campaigned in Nepal by attending demonstrations organised by other groups. As he had seen that there is a lack of a dynamic Political Movement advocating for the freedom of Tibet from illegal Chinese occupation he started organizing demonstrations himself with collaboration of several colleagues to pressure the Nepali authorities with a view to win rights for Tibetans in Nepal and to demand that HH Dalai Lama be allowed to return to his home country Tibet to continue as their spiritual leader. The Freedom For Tibet movement demanded end to Chinese occupation of Tibet. He was subjected to persecution by Nepali authorities for his activities as the Nepali authorities do not wish to displease China. Both countries have entered into a number of bilateral agreements to remove those who demonstrate in Nepal back to China for engaging in anti-China activities. When his arrest was imminent he escaped from Nepal in fear he would be handed over to Chinese authorities. NOW the time has come to bring this Freedom movement to a new level to draw the attention of International community because it has been so long since China illegally occupied a peaceful nation - Tibet, We prioritize transparency, set ambitious goals, and follow a strategic approach to drive meaningful change. As society evolves, so do we, and we invite you to join us in making a difference for Tibetans.
